AAKRITI'S POV
It’s been ten days since Viren’s passing, and just yesterday, the men finally carried out his asthivisarjan—the final ritual of scattering his ashes. Our husbands had been adamantly refusing to do it, but in the end, they were practically forced by me and Raisha. Of course, Dadi Sa’s extra superstitious beliefs acted as a strong backup for us.
The funny thing is, it all started after Raisha and I watched a movie where the villain, after being killed, had his asthivisarjan and last rites ignored. Unsurprisingly, his restless soul became an unsettled spirit, roaming around and causing chaos. He ended up possessing a human and wreaking havoc on the lives of the main characters. After watching that, Raisha and I exchanged wide-eyed glances. In the next moment, we were tossing popcorn into our mouths and rushing off to tell our husbands that Viren’s last rites had to be done immediately.
Fast forward to the actual ritual, and the men grudgingly performed the necessary rites. But they were not done there. Oh no, the two of them decided to take their revenge by banning us from watching anything—movies, TV shows, you name it. They’ve put a childlock on the TV, taken our phones away, deleted our Netflix subscriptions.
YES, they actually went and did that, and instructed every single family member not to let us watch anything.
Can you believe it? I mean, seriously. Such childish behavior! We’re adults, but apparently, they think they’re parenting us now. It’s like we’re under house arrest—just because of a movie!
